“Do we keep these bots because we think they reflect public opinion at large? Or do we think that people are so simpleminded they let obvious bots tell them what to think?”
Brass Heart, a tiny Uptown newcomer, wants to compete. Chef-partner Matt Kerney, a Schwa veteran who earned a Michelin star at Longman & Eagle and appeared on Iron Chef Showdown, is clearly vying for a place at the big boys’ table with his pair of intricate 15-course prix fixe menus — one vegan ($145), one omnivore ($185).
The rest of the card is quietly solid as the all action Alex Oliveira battles Gunnar Nelson, Thiago Santos tries to continue his assault on the light heavyweight division, Olivier Aubin-Mercier takes on Gilbert Burns in what could be a sleeper bout for Fight of the Night honors, and Claudia Gadelha battles Nina Ansaroff for position in the strawweight division. Now it could turn out that these fights are duds in practice but on paper this is a solid offering.

Roy lives in a cube-shaped apartment, the same size and shape as 857,003 other units in the city that are all enrolled in the same exchange. Once in a while, his apartment relocates while he’s asleep, to a better or worse neighborhood—depending on the current market bid for placement in the nice part of town. Some days Roy opens his front door and sees broken bottles and syringes. Other times he steps out into a neighborhood of florists and high-end coffee. This week Roy’s living in a trendy spot, dotted with parklets—so he can’t help believing that everything is headed in the right direction.
Teachout rejects this notion entirely. No one would fault her for promising to take on the pharma industry in her campaign, as its abuses have been widely reported. And she isn’t throwing lawsuits and seeing what sticks, either. “It is fully appropriate to say, ‘These are the facts we have. We have many reasons to believe these businesses are engaged in illegality.’ But if they aren’t, they aren’t.”

Such heavy equipment might seem to be overkill for uncovering buried treasure, a relatively delicate operation, but big equipment has rumbled around the island for decades, including well drilling rigs and tracked earth-movers. More than a half century ago, a California developer notably tore into Oak Island. “Tore” is the right verb, because the dozers and 70-ton digging cranes he employed ripped apart whole sections of the island, defacing it for subsequent explorers. All, incidentally, to no avail.
